PVC Shutter Installation

PVC shutters require special installation.  Unlike wood shutters which often have 2 hinges, PVC shutters require anywhere from 3-5 hinges.  This tells the shutter to stay in a straight line and provides structural support throughout the center.  It is also recommended that vinyl safe paint be used to minimize heat absorption from the sun.  Lastly, for extremely dark colors, an L-clip bracket can be clipped to the unsupported corner of the shutter to keep it secured to the house .



Shutter Hardware

Exterior shutter hardware is very different from interior shutter hardware.  Hinges sit atop pintels which are often screwed directly to the window framing.  Pintels come in many sizes to accomodate siding, brick, and/or rock.  Lastly, shutter dogs are placed in the opposing bottom corner to keep the shutters from flapping and moving around.
